We are sad to announce that Ginger Baker has been diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis and is awaiting further treatment before resuming his musical endeavours. As a result he has had to cancel all upcoming tour dates.

Exeter Phoenix is supporting the Ginger Baker Benefit Fund with this special gig featuring a host of his fellow musicians, each with impressive musical credentials of their own…

Pee Wee Ellis

Famed from his appearance on many of James Brown’s most notable recordings and co-writing Cold Sweat and Say It Loud I’m Black and I’m Proud, Pee Wee Ellis is an American saxophonist, composer and arranger. During his long and fascinating career, Ellis also recorded with the likes of Van Morrison, The JB Horns and Maceo Parker.

Jason Rebello

British pianist, songwriter and record producer Jason Rebello has been a bandmember for the likes of Sting and Beck, and has also worked with Chaka Khan, Des’ree, Mica Paris, Carleen Anderson, Manu Katché, Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel.

Alec Dankworth

Alec Dankworth is an award-winning jazz bassist and composer who, in addition to leading several groups of his own, has worked with an amazing list of artists including Van Morrison, Stephanne Grappelli, Abdullah Ibrahim, and The Dave Brubeck Quartet. He is known for his energetic stage presence, versatility of style and some of the most imaginative bass solos around.
